During this period, coccolith-packed sediment formed the White Cliffs of Dover from a mineral that gives this period its name. This period (15[1])is the “K” (-5[1])in the name of a thin band of (15[1])(*) iridium-rich rock called the K-Pg boundary, thought to be left by an impactor at Chicxulub (“CHICK-su-loob”). Fauna from this chalk-abundant period include Quetzalcoatlus and Tyrannosaurus.
